Wal-Mart is getting larger with time to time.

There are many stores in Carbondale, but the biggest is Wal-Mart. Everybody likes Wal-mart because it is cheaper and easier. People prefer to go to Wal-Mart rather than other stores because it is so big that people can get everything there. Moreover, Wal-Mart is increasing the economy in the U.S.; according to USA TODAY (2003) “Wal-Mart’s influence on the U.S. economy has reached levels not seen by a single company since the 19th-century rise of Standard Oil, economists and historians say” (para.1). One of the most successful companies in the history of business is Wal-Mart (Locke, 2004). Wal-Mart is very successful because the man who started Wal-Mart is very smart. Wal-Mart is beneficial because it provides jobs and people can save a lot of money.
Wal-Mart provides jobs for many people. For example, in Carbondale many people are working in Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart needed more workers because it opens twenty-four hours every day, seven days a week. This is good for some people because some people cannot find jobs and they can find jobs easily in Wal-Mart. Hoeing (2004) says in the year 2005, Wal-Mart give 125,000 American jobs, and is still giving a thousand each month. This is really helpful for them that sit around at home with no jobs because they can work in Wal-Mart. According to USA TODAY (2003),”Wal-Mart’s key role in the 1995-99 economic boom came partly because of its legendary use of technology to analyze costs and speed delivery of goods from its 30,00 suppliers to dozen of sprawling warehouses, say retail and financial analysts”(para. 28).
Secondly, Wal-Mart always advertises their store and says “low price guarantee”. This quote really attracts people’s attention. This is also true because the things inside Wal-Mart are cheap. Like Hoenig (2004) says,“the company’s “low price guarantee” shouldn’t be dismissed as a marketing catchphrase: estimates suggest the average Wal-Mart can save a family over $2,000 a year compared to shopping at higher priced alternatives” (para. 6). This is really helpful because if people can save that much money they can buy something else. For example, with that much money people can buy a chair, bed, or T.V.
My opponents say that Wal-Mart is giving more jobs to men. For example, Drogin (2003) says, “women comprise 92% of Wal-Mart’s cashiers, but only 33% of its managers.” (p. 10). This is so irrelevant, because women usually stay at home to become a housewife and man has to do the work and find money, and this is a normal human life. Many women are cashier, because they may be young; that is just wasting their time waiting for a result or finding schools. Many of the managers are men because men do work fast and well. This is why fewer women work in Wal-Mart and more men are managers.
In conclusion, Wal-Mart is beneficial because it is cheap and gives jobs to people. This store can make us save a lot of money. This is why Wal-Mart is good for the society. Building a new supercenter in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area is nothing wrong because it will give more benefit for people around it because it is closer.

Mr. Osava(2005) talks about the soybean and the forest today. Brazillian companies are not going to buy soybean from deforested areas. Deforestation has been decreasing in the last few years and the government is taking advantage of that, so they can make the forest beautiful. They can focus on a new law on public forests if they can stop illegal logging. Soy plantations are very bad for the future and will pollute the water. Export firms are now trying to preserve the jungles. They are now protecting the Amazon forest by negotiating with the traders. Greenpeace is protecting the future and the Amazon people and soy traders are helping them now. They set up a working group and found that the jungles have been deforested to make way for the soybean.

The Amazon forest is good for the eyes and more for the health. So, we need to keep the forest safe from the traders or the people that do illegal logging. Maybe in the future there will be less oxygen in the air and also fewer trees. Therefore, society needs to take care of our forest and needs to take this problem seriously. The forest is not the problem, but the people are the ones who make this problem. Why do they do such a thing to the beautiful forest? People must prevent the illegal logging because these actions make the forest thinner. There are some of the ways to stop illegal logging: don’t let them cut down the trees, tighten the law and make them realize the results.

People cannot just cut the trees down if there is no government involved because that is illegal. The government is the one that checks the trees if it is time for them to be cut down. The forest is like our oxygen. So, if there is less forest, the oxygen is getting less too, and oxygen is the thing that makes us breathe. If there are fewer trees in this world, it can affect the greenhouse gases because less oxygen causes the greenhouse effect. Maybe there will be fewer fresh air in the future if cutting down tree is still going on.

Illegal logging is something connected with the law, because illegal means breaking the law. The law needs to be tightens so that there is less illegal logging. Make the law tight, like catch the people that do illegal logging, and put them in jail for two years and fine them fifty thousand more than the usual fine. Maybe that will slow it down, because maybe they are scared of the law. Some people don’t want to disturb the law because they are scared that they will go to jail and ruin their life. Some people just do it for money and this type of person needs to be put in jail; because of them, some of the people get poorer. This is because people that can get trees legally did not get them, but people who do it illegally are getting the trees. This is so unfair for the society.

These people that are doing illegal logging need to realize that they are doing a bad job, because if they are the people that are getting the trees, someone else cannot get them. How would they feel if people do that to them? Maybe they will get mad because of that situation, because other people do it illegally and they do it legally. So, these people need to feel as if they are in a different position. Maybe they don’t realize that their kids will not get to look at beautiful nature because their father ruined it. When the time comes, then they will realize that.

In conclusion, these are some of the ways to prevent illegal logging: take care of the trees, make the law dangerous, and get illegal loggers to see a different view. If all these ways are followed in the future, they will still have a nice forest. Kids will still get to see the nice forest in the future. People will get fresh air every time and the government will not make the law tighter. No doubt that the forest will be beautiful again if the they use these ways.

In Bhattacharya’s (2004) article entitled “Global warming threatens millions of species”, she points out that the temperature nowadays can make the species die. When the temperature changes they feel like they are in a new place, and this will make many of the species disappear. Some species will move to another place because their habitat is gone. Some species will survive but they try their best to live. Although some species will die, some will live when they migrate to different places because of the temperature. The new environment for the species may always be smaller than the one that they lived in before. Action needs to be taken as soon as possible.

Global warming is bad for our earth because it can kill many animals and plants. Whose fault is it that this happens? We think that it is our fault that global warming occurs because some of these people on this planet don't really think about what they have done. Some people don’t care about global warming until it affects them, then they become aware of it. This is something really serious, because it can affect our lives too; not only the people that make this happen, but also the innocent people will get the effect. So, people in this world must work together to take action and solve this problem, because the future will get affected.

This is not good for the future because we all need animals and plants to live. Every person in this world today needs food to live and the food they get is from animals and plants. We need to take care of these species because they all are useful. Because of all these species in this world effect us in different ways, so we need to thank them for the one that make us live in this world. Furthermore, we need to keep all the species alive, because they are living things in this world. They contribute something in many different ways; maybe we don’t know how but they do. This will make our world really nice to live in.

Similarly, the temperature on this earth is getting hotter and hotter and this is really bad. The greenhouse effect will affect everybody in this world. One of the effect is the ozone will get thinner and thinner every time the greenhouse getting worse. This is also because many people cut all the tree on this earth and there is less oxygen in the air. It can cause the greenhouse effect and the atmosphere will be thinner.

All the people in this world will be really angry because they cannot live in a better place because there are many disasters happening in this world because of the global warming effect. For instance, many flood disasters happen in this world because of the temperature rising. The sea level is also getting higher and higher and this is also because of the temperature. The ice in the arctic is melting and the sea level goes up. This is not good for the humans that are living in this world.

In conclusion, global warming can affect the whole world. This will get worse if the people in this world did not take action as soon as possible. This is because we are the one that get the effect, and it is really serious if we just don't care about this global warming. Everybody in this world must care and think of a way to solve this problem, because it is our responsibility
